Office of Public Guardian
The Office of the Public Guardian protects people in England and Wales who may not have the mental capacity to make certain decisions for themselves, such as about their health and finance. This could be because they have an illness, dementia, a learning disability or mental health problem which makes it difficult to understand information, make decisions and then communicate those decisions to other people.

The Office helps people plan ahead so that someone else can make certain important decisions on their behalf, should they become unable to do so because they lack mental capacity. It is also responsible for registering lasting and enduring powers of attorney so that people can choose who they want to make decisions for them.
